futurisms
My thoughts about the future of journalism… I think journalism is experiencing some exciting new changes. Journalism’s “move” to the internet excites me because I’m interested in web development and online technologies. I think it will be easy for upcoming, young journalists to get jobs because we are web savvy; we know how to work this new medium.
Though I think online journalism is becoming increasingly more prevalent, I also don’t believe that print publications will ever die out. For some people, it is just too satisfying to hold a hard copy in their hands. I love carrying around magazines, pulling them out on the train or when I get a break during class. I like looking at the design of the pages, how pages flow and the colors and graphics decorating them. This, I think, cannot be replicated on the Web.
There is a place for both types of media—print and online— in the future. People will continue buying print publications, because they are portable, visually stimulating, familiar, or for other various reasons. And people will also continue to read news on the Web, because it’s updated faster and it provides more in-depth and varied information than any print news source could ever offer.
