obamarama

I felt so excited when this election kicked off with Obama winning the Democratic ticket.  It really seemed like, this time, things might actually be different. But now I’m starting to lose the faith. I still plan to vote for Obama (whenever my dang absentee ballot finally gets here!), but I just don’t feel as inspired by him anymore. I don’t know that he’s really going to change anything at all. He talks in vague generalities; I have yet to hear any concrete ideas about how this “change” is supposed to come about, besides simply raising taxes.

And I hate how he’s embracing the negative ad campaigns now. It’s so sleazy, but what can you do when the other guy is spreading lies about you? I guess you have to fight back. It’s just sad that this is the standard for politicians in our country..

I’m not totally pessimistic about the situation though. If Obama wins, it will still be a pretty amazing accomplishment. I’m happy to be able to see an African American man come to power in my lifetime. It doesn’t mean racism is over, no, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction. I think that we need Obama right now, if only just to prove that we can elect a leader who’s not some old, rich white guy.
