group work

In junior high I had a lot of bad group work experiences. I can’t point out any one horrible moment. I just remember always having to take the lead in my groups because I usually ended up with a bunch of slackers. Or I just wouldn’t trust my group members to get things done, or done well, so I’d want to do everything myself. I still don’t really like the idea of group work in classes, though I do see the point of the exercise now. It’s supposed to prepare us for collaborating with co-workers when we finally leave here and get grown-up people jobs. I think I’ve become a better group member since I realized that I have to be a good group worker if I want to be employed. I just have to trust that everyone will get their parts done, and that if anyone doesn’t, the instructor won’t hold it against the whole group. Oh yeah, and try to lighten up and have fun in the process :)
